This leads to the search of insecticides of botanical origin which can serve as a suitable alternative biocontrol technique. Many plants have been reported to have mosqitocidal activity but only few have been used in the field. Since the plants are not clearly characterized and active principles for mosquitocidal activity are not determined properly. There is a need for the development of new botanical insecticids. In our present work Acalypa fruricosa and Andrographis peniculata as thoroughly studied for its mosquitocidal activity. Keywards: Larvicidal, Acalypha fruticosa, Andrographis peniculata; alkaloid extract

The present study was carried out to establish the properties of Acalypha alnifolia leaf extract and microbial insecticide, Metarizhium anisopliae on larvicidal and pupicidal activity against the lymphatic filarial vector, Culex quinquefasciatus. The methanol extract of A. alnifolia leaf showed larvicidal and pupicidal effects after 24 h of exposure; with, the highest larval and pupal mortality...

Resistance to insecticides has persuaded researchers to find new methods to control Culex quinquefasciatus proliferation. Plants may be a source of alternative agents for mosquito control due to ever-growing insecticide resistance in mosquito vectors and environmental imbalance caused by synthetic insecticides. The present study was intended to study the larvicidal activity of selected Cyathea ...
متن کاملEvaluation of toxicity of plant extracts against vector of lymphatic filariasis, Culex quinquefasciatus
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Conventional insecticides are generally used as larvicides to control Culex quinquefasciatus, vector of lymphatic filariasis. This study was undertaken to evaluate the larvicidal activity of some potential larvicidal plants leaf extracts against Cx. quinquefasciatus larvae. METHODS The toxic effects of petroleum ether leaf extracts of plants viz., Argemone mexicana (Me...
متن کاملLarvicidal efficacy of Vernonia cinerea (L.) (Asteraceae) leaf extracts against the filarial vector Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae)
The larvicidal efficacy of Vernonia cinerea leaf extracts against the common filarial vector, Culex quinquefasciatus was determined. Ground Vernonia cinerea leaves were sequentially extracted with ethyl acetate, chloroform, acetone and methanol. A series of concentrations of the extracts ranging from 0.05 – 2 mg/ml were tested against third instar larvae using WHO protocol and their percentage ...

The larvicidal activity of hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate leaf extracts of Strychnos nuxvomica against the third instar larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus was studied. The ethyl acetate leaf extract was found to be the effective larvicide with LC value of 222.28 and 146.99 ppm after 24 and 48 hours. The results indicate 50 promising larvicidal activity against Culex quinquefasciatus. Furthe...
